Why do I write?

Why do I write?

I’ve been pondering this question for a few months, while trying to work through some emotional issues and stressors.

My original premise was:

  • I write to work through life issues and desires
  • To daydream
  • Hehe, for lack of a better term, “to boldly go” where I have never gone before
  • To make the thousands of different voices and dreams and “stories”, quiet down. If I could just get them on paper, maybe my mind would feel a little less chaotic. Plus I like the idea of reading my crazy stories on paper. 😉
  • To tell a story no one has ever told

Hmmm, since this seems to be more and more difficult to do…

  • To retell a story with my own creative twists

And lastly,

  • To feel alive

Words, stories, music, drama (not the kind on social media, LOL. The kind where two opposing characters meet, and work through their differences in sometimes, the noisiest, yet most beautiful imagery.)…

It all awakens me. It gives me purpose. It builds me up. Words and music fill my cup, break me down, build me up.

Stories (both written and on screen) give me hope when I have none. They make me feel beautiful, even when I feel I am not. They give me strength to push through another day, and make that one count.

I think that’s why I prefer Disney stories and shows / movies with cheesy, sentimental endings.

The Princess Bride, Ella Enchanted, Never Ending Story, Frozen, Chronicles of Narnia, Seventh Heaven, High School Musical, pretty much all Cinderella movies, Maleficent…

They all bring me joy. ‘Happily ever afters’ make me feel like anything is possible.

This is why I write. I write to connect with my soul, my passion, my energies, and hopefully, with others.

It’s 9:30 am, Sunday morning, and this is the first time I have felt clear minded enough to articulate my thoughts in a good while, so I’m typing them down as quickly as I can, before I lose my clear moment.

For those who don’t know; I am staying away from social media for a while until I can get my emotions and life back in control.

A good friend blessed me by suggesting I craft and do what made me happy. So I’m knitting and making scrabble tile jewelry. (And as crazy as it sounds, I am cleaning!) I’m also purging the house, little by little, to get rid of all the “junk” we don’t need.

I’m hoping to start writing again soon.

Good Lord, you would not believe the killer stories I have mostly written, plus the new ones that are floating through my head!

They are so different and amazingly crazy- LOL, I know, I should probably try for a few less “out there” stories. But these are the ones my creative side keeps bringing to the table.

And this is one of the reasons I write.

  • I write to embrace my crazy, creative side.

Anyone else? Why do you write?

Thanks for stopping by. I’m off to knit. (I’m almost finished with my daughter’s birthday blanket. I started it in September. Hehe, her birthday was in October 🙂 )

Spanking A-Z Challenge, O: Oppa Gangnam Style

spank A2Z

Welcome back for another fun day of spanking A-Z! Today’s letter is “O”, and I absolutely had to share my favorite music video from last year.

Oppa Gangnam Style

Holy cow, this video is so funny. I honestly don’t know what the words mean. But if you’ve seen any of my replies in the other posts (yes, I had no idea what the lyrics for “Like a Virgin” meant, until my adult years 🙂 ), you already know that I am more in tune with the music and expression of a song than I am by the words, anyway.

This is probably why I thought:

The heavy metal band was called “Inks”

“Blinded by the Light was  about being “wrapped up like a douche”

Greased lightning caused “the chicks to cream” , (never thought twice about that one).

I had no problem whatsoever with Sandy’s suit getting “damp” when Danny ran by her.

And I still to this day, don’t know what most of my favorite Madonna songs were about.

But I could probably take a guess; and there’s always google, when I’m ready.

LOL, I have always enjoyed the innocent side of things, and liked being blissfully unaware.

So here is my favorite song and video to just party and dance to.

Even though I have no idea what the words mean.

Have fun, ride a fake horse, and smack a little bootie!

Have a great day!

Christmas Blessings – music

christmas bells and music

I had a huge blessing last week!

I remembered the music inside my heart.

I had pushed it aside for a while, after leaving our church.

It just hurt too much to sing.

But singing has always been a part of my life.

Some of my favorite memories are of my sister and I singing duets, and singing with my family.  I love music. It warms my heart, feeds my soul, opens me to love.

Now, I’ll be perfectly honest. I am not a lead singer, and I will never be on Broadway.  But I do love to harmonize. Thirds and fifths come naturally to me. I adore the beauty of a three and four part chorus.

A few weeks ago, I was told about a cool application (Audacity.com) that allowed me to record my voice, and then add harmonies!

I had so much fun!

I made several songs for a dear friend’s mother, and for a few other close friends.

They were meant to be blessings to them.

But it turns out, they blessed me more than I could have ever imagined.

I loved creating the recordings, and re-recording new harmonies.

But they were far from perfect.

In fact, there were places where my tone wavered, my key shifted, (my nose sniffled), I went slightly off pitch, and the background noise from the cheap laptop microphone drowned out the music.

LOL, I even forgot the words a few times! 🙂

I sang, harmonized, tweaked, formatted, scrunched up my nose a ton (technology and new applications are really not my forte), re-sang– and enjoyed every minute of it!

And I sent the songs out, as they were. Imperfect. Flawed. But given from my heart, with joy and love.

I am sharing some of them here, in the hopes that someone else may be as blessed as I was.

These are only partial songs. (Sorry, I did not know all the words for a lot of them. LOL, I should have just sang “Deck the Halls… Falalala, la lalala!” ) 🙂

Music brings life to my soul, and joy to my heart.   I hope it will do the same for you!

Feel free to lurk. There’s no need to comment.

Blessings and hugs!

Happy Holidays!
