Bad guys I love to hate!

I decided to share my favorite bad guys of the year with you. I know the year is not over yet, and I may come across more.  If I do, I will make another post- a bad guys redux. 🙂

So, here goes. My favorite bad guys. I need to explain something here. These bad guys are not just bad guys, they are the epitome of evil. And when I think about the possibility of actually meeting someone like this, it scares me.

These are also not just antagonists who show a little spark of positive light toward the end, so the reader knows they will be seeing this character again- but possibly as a protagonist. When I do that kind of post, I will include characters like Kresley Cole’s, Lothaire (Immortals After Dark) and Jim Butcher’s, Thomas (The Dresden Files). Those guys start feeding me little morsels of empathy, and Bam! Protagonist, coming my way.

I like these kind of characters too. But that is not what today is about. Today is all about the BAD GUY. The one that I despise. The character that I love to hate. And his / her “badness” makes me feel oh so good.

A quick note about spoilers. I think everyone can tell, from the blurb, who the bad guys are, and what to expect in the story. I’ll do my best not to give anything crucial away. But be forewarned, just in case. Possible spoilers ahead…

These are in no particular order. They are just my favorite bad guys that came to mind over coffee this morning. And that’s how I decided who to include. If they jump into my thoughts while I am washing dishes and drinking coffee, then they are worthy of my “Favorite” list. (I actually did forget the name of a few of the characters. But since I could so vividly see their story and actions, I knew they belonged here.

Remember – no particular order, and possible spoilers…

warrior       from Cara Bristol’s “Warrior“. The last in the Breeder series.

This was one bad dude. He cared about nothing except for world wide domination. The fact that his own son feared him, says a lot about Qalin. This was a cold hearted killer who brought in savage aliens as soldiers, and almost decimated his world. He was Cray-cray, with a capitol “C”. He was also a very good bad guy.

My review on Amazon

romantek 4      from Patricia Green’s Romantek series. He was also an antagonist in Charlotte and the Pirate, Romentek 2, and again in Vacation in Rio, Romantek 4.

Esharveer Jaggi-

Wow, this dude had some serious revenge issues. He would stop at nothing to get revenge on Romantek, the company he used to work for. As is usually the case for brilliant guys who get terminated from employment and seek revenge, Esharveer took his plotting to a whole new level of nastiness. It wasn’t bad enough, he wanted to hurt the company. But to ruthlessly and carefully weave his way into the dream reality to attempt several murders… Yeah, that was pretty bad. And the harder he tried, the more it hurt him. The man was seriously screwed up in the head. He was an awesome bad guy.

My review on Amazon

gabes bride     from Penny Allen (Maren Smith)’s Hollow Hills series, Gabe’s Bride.

This handsome, grandfather type, actually scared me the most. You expect your patriarch to be loving, kind, and to protect you. Especially, if he is the leader of your clan of shifters, and you have no one else. That’s what made this man so diabolical. He ruled with fear. He rewarded those who pleased him, and he severely punished those who didn’t. This included people who couldn’t help themselves– like a young woman and her five year old son. (there is more to them, but I don’t want to give too much away.) Suffice it to say, Deacon, really hurt Neoma in a lot of ways: murder of loved ones, while she watched; threats of taking her son; starvation; ostracization… This man did it all.

And he enjoyed doing it, all while smiling benevolently, paternally.

This guy was a real BAD guy. And he took things to an ultimate level of “wrongness” at the end.

Review coming (expect a 5 star totally awesome, I loved it and couldn’t put it down review coming soon. Seriously, I wouldn’t be recommending it here, if I didn’t 🙂 )

godesses curse   from Cara Bristol’s The Goddess’s Curse.

This woman wanted to be queen of the Sharona, no matter the cost. Treachery, deceit, murder, and two faced lies in an attempt to create war between the Sharona and the Lahon… she did a lot. And she also tried to kill her own cousin, Princess Reena. It wouldn’t have been so evil, if she hadn’t projected such an air of love and protection, all while slowly poisoning the throne. This woman was so evil, so disgusting, so vile… I won’t share everything she did, because I don’t want to spoil it. But trust me. This woman was EVIL.

My review on Amazon

There’s my list of the baddest bad guys for the year. Do you have any favorites? What makes your favorite evil villain, just that much more evil?

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy reading!

Thank you, military! (A tribute to soldiers in spanking romance)

thank you military

In honor of this year’s Memorial Day, I am doing something different.

First and foremost, thank you to all the brave military men and women who have served and are serving our country. Thank you to the spouses and families who carry on without their loved ones- sometimes, forever. Thank you to the business who bless the families and soldiers.

As a former Navy Brat, Army wife, and Army Captain, I have seen both sides of the military life, and am so grateful for all the awesome blessings I have today.

So Thank you!!!

Today, I am sharing some books that show the different sides of military life. Yes these are fiction, but they honor the before, during, and after effects, either from the soldiers’ perspective or the significant other.

If you decide to buy or read a book this weekend, please consider one of these.

And thank you to the authors who incorporated U.S military men or women as main characters in their stories.

These are just the ones that jumped into my mind first. I am sure there are plenty more from the spanking romance / erotic romance genre. Please feel free to add others in your comments below. 🙂

Happy Memorial Day!

Taming-Kat-Big         Amazon Link

I loved this book, and appreciated the author including PTSD as part of the male main character’s development. Not only was it sexy, and a ton of fun, but the brief explanation of PTSD really rounded him out.

as natural as breathing               Amazon Link

I love the premise of this story.  A scarred. wounded soldier, fresh from Afghanistan, still fighting his own battles. But he meets a man who is not afraid to love him for who he is. It sounds like a beautiful love story.  M/M

livs journey                Amazon Link

This was one of my very first books by Patricia Green, so it has a special place in my heart. I loved the fact that it had a non typical female character- a plus sized model. Kudos to Patricia for that. But what really made me fall in love with the whole Journey family (this is one of my favorite families), was Trey. Uber sexy, dominant, former military man- two tours in Afghanistan. I loved this story!

general's daughter           Amazon Link

This series is about a military family- Marines. I loved this story, and adore Sam, the female MC. She is just so much fun! All the men in her family, (her brother, father and Uncle) spank her to keep her in line. If I were being completely honest, I would tell you not only that this series given me a TON of wonderful fantasies, and I am also seriously crushing on Uncle Scott.  Yum!

callie mae and marine        Amazon link

Okay, I loved the premise of this story! A wounded former marine dealing with depression after his release from duty. He agrees to do a secret project- time travel to the old west. This one is on my Kindle. I can’t wait to read it. I love Stevie! 🙂 (I also love all the O’Malley’s!)

sir yes sir       Amazon link

I can totally relate to this story! A soldier comes back after a long tour of duty, and both he and his wife have to figure out how to adjust to civilian life. The author is fantastic at writing realistic stories, so this one should be pretty spot on. And I bet there will be lots of spankings. 😉

marines pet          Amazon Link

This one sounds fun! A Marine Corps Sergeant takes his bratty neighbor in hand.  Pet Play, BDSM, lots of spankings!

safeinhisarms_full       Amazon Link

Yum! Former marine. One night stand leads to accidental pregnancy. He comes back as a Black Ops agent, and protects her from bad guys. Sexy, yummy. Loved it! (Have I ever mentioned how much I love Renee? I’ll mention it again 😉 )

something has to give         Amazon Link

I loved this book. (Okay, I love everything Maren writes, but still… 🙂 ) A hot former soldier, whose wife left him while he was deployed; her loss- this guy is AMAZING! Lots of sparks between him and the “squatter” who took over his home. So much fun! 🙂 this was part of the Naughty List box set.

captain my cpt      Amazon Link

This one sounds sexy and fun, and I have to admit, I get all swoony over a man in uniform. 😉

Happy Memorial Day, friends! Hope you find a good soldier to help you get your “spank on” this weekend.

thank you patches

Author Share – Formula Writing

Hey friends,

I know I have been a bit remiss with the Author Share posts lately. Sorry. 🙂

But when Patricia Green agreed to explain formula writing to me, I had to jump on this!

Please comment below. I would love to hear your experience, either from the writing or reading side. 🙂

Ok, let’s talk about Formula Writing.

Author Share black letters

Katherine Deane: Thanks for joining me today, Patricia. I have heard a few publishers and authors mention this term before. What is formula writing?

Patricia Green: “Formula” is about taking tried-and-true tropes and gluing them together with certain plots, in order to fulfill reader expectations. Tropes are often-recurring scenarios pertaining to specific types of genre fiction. Spanking romance has certain tropes, romance in general has certain tropes (see here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RomanceNovelTropes and here: http://allthetropes.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Romance_Novel_Tropes for lists), westerns have tropes, as do mysteries, and suspense/thriller stories.

Katherine Deane: Can you give an example of what this could look like in spanking fiction?

Patricia Green: Applied to spanking romance, you take one of the tropes given above, and add a bratty heroine, a dominant guy who isn’t afraid to assert his authority by spanking, and you’re ready to rock ‘n roll.

Katherine Deane: Why does formula writing work?

Patricia Green: Formula writing works because it meets reader expectations. Whether a reader realizes it or not, when she picks up a book in a specific genre, she’s expecting certain things to happen. Here’s a good list of what ought to happen in a romance novel: http://howtowriteshop.loridevoti.com/2012/07/five-scenes-every-romance-novel-needs/ If your intention is to hook a regular romance reader (of any subgenre, including spanking romance), you want to use a plot that basically goes like this:

  1. The meeting
  2. The conflict
  3. The attraction which overwhelms the conflict
  4. Conflicting emotions which leads to a dark moment
  5. Resolution and HEA

Katherine Deane: That explains why my editors and publisher sometimes give me suggestions that differ from my original plan. (Like a very dark scene they suggested I tone down a bit. Best suggestion ever. I think my readers would have been very emotionally drained if I had not edited that scene.)

Katherine Deane: When does it NOT work?

Patricia Green: If you’re writing literary fiction, you have no formula. It’s a free-for-all, and once again, that meets reader expectations. If you’re writing any kind of genre fiction, though, writing to formula will get you more publisher interest, more positive reader reviews, and a greater likelihood of success. That is not to say that you cannot be a maverick, but to do so means you are taking a chance that readers will be disappointed. Writing contrary to formula is a risky business.

Katherine Deane: Is all spanking romance formulaic?

Patricia Green: We’d all like to think that we’re writing something new and different, something no one has ever done before. And, in terms of our heroes and heroines and their adventures, we might very well be presenting something unique. However, if you want to fall into any genre fiction category (which is the majority of fiction, these days), you will be using the formula for that genre. That’s what readers are looking for, and what you, as an author need to provide. There are so many tropes, so many things you can do with a formulaic plot, however, that you don’t need to feel constrained. Your hero and heroine are unique, with unique methods of dealing with their conflicts and emotions. That’s what makes your work special and what captures the attention of avid readers – readers who often don’t even realize they are hooked on formula.

Katherine Deane: I can attest, from the reader side, Patricia. I like the stability usually, and don’t like to be surprised. However, there are the occasional stories that push me, emotionally. And I have enjoyed them. But I might not have read them if I had just looked at the tags. (I can totally see an Author Share about tagging coming soon! )

Thanks so much for sharing with us.

Patricia Green’s latest book is Rescued by the Spy. It’s a f/M/f sci fi spy adventure, with a whole lot of sexy parts. (I actually was confused by the acronym, because I usually read M/f. Here’s how Patricia explained it for me)

f/M/f (note the capitalized M in there) means two submissive females and one dominant male, but the females do not engage each other sexually (the reason they are bookends to the M)

I loved this book! It definitely pushed my comfort zone boundaries a bit, but I am so glad I read it. It was amazing, and oh, so sexy!

Erotica Writers and Erotic Lives, from Patricia Green

Hey Friends!   Patricia Green is taking over my blog today. Enjoy!

Erotica writers must be twenty-five year old models or superstars who are keeping themselves anonymous by using a pen name and a clever disguise. Well, that’s what a lot of people think. But the fact is, erotica writers are just like everyone else. They are all ages, all sizes, from all walks of life, with husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends (sometimes more than one), with kids, without kids, employed, unemployed, disabled or exercise buffs. The things they have in common are a fertile imagination and a desire to make the reader excited. No one writes published erotica without thinking about how it will affect the reader.

Like all kinds of fiction writers, erotica writers are going for a reaction. Not just any reaction, but one that makes the readers’ toes curl and a blush steal over her cheeks. Sometimes, it makes them squeeze their legs together, or hide their private parts under a pillow. Oo, la, la! The point is the reaction. We never want you to be bored or skip over the sexy bits to get to the “good parts.” And, although we want there to be a story, too, to us the “good parts” include the erotic content.

Where do erotica writers get their inspiration? Do they all have phenomenal sex lives? You’d have to ask a lot of erotica writers for honest answers to Kinsey-esque questions. But, exactly like their variations in social status and family life, I’m betting there is a complete spectrum of sexiness among erotica writers. Some are more intimate than sexy. A few are crazed sex maniacs. Most are somewhere in the middle, with healthy sex lives that are influenced by everyday events. When the kids are sick, the sex life goes on hiatus, but the intimacy continues (we hope). Intimacy doesn’t always mean sex. It often means a glance and a shy smile, or holding hands on the couch, or sharing a spoonful of crème brulée. Many of these things find their way into erotica, especially erotic romance. Intimacy is the ultimate in romantic. And sex, for an erotic writer, can be wild and crazy or slow and steady. If he’s a good erotic writer, there will be a mix in his book, as there is in real life relationships. Even one night stands are often a mixed up melding of styles meant to excite the primitive urges.

The bottom line is that you don’t have to live an erotic life to write erotica. You have to have an imagination, the desire to make the reader feel something special, and a strong grasp of what intimacy and romance are. The writer might not be interested in romance, but she has to know what qualifies. There are some pretty dirty stories out there, and they certainly can be erotic under the right circumstances, but not every one will move you. If one does, it’s a keeper, meant to be dog-eared and marked up and a sexy friend for life.

Spanking A-Z Challenge, I: Interview with five sons of Johnny Hastings

spank A2Z

Quick Update: My youngest child is fighting Strep, and we are desperately trying to keep the rest of the family healthy as well. (LOL, as soon as a friend mentioned strep yesterday, my throat started hurting. 🙂 Hopefully, it is just psychosomatic.) I will not be replying much for the next few days, but will still keep the pre – set posts scheduled. Also, I will probably not be making many visits around to the rest of the blogs until all this passes. Hope y’all understand. 🙂 Hugs and blessings!

The authors of this fantastic set were willing to try something fun for this interview! I am so excited about having the chance to talk with each of their main men. Boy, were they hot! 😉

Western Alphas – belts, spurs and other kinky stuff

Abel Armstrong- The Blacksmith’s Bride (Patricia Green)

Matthew Caine – To Have and to Scold (Mary Wehr)

Jackson Owens – The Lawman’s Lessons (Patty Devlin)

Sam Pride – The Outlaw’s Bride (Renee Rose)

Clinton Ryan – The Juniper Bride (Maddie Taylor)

The Interview:

Katherine Deane walks into her  office, finding it suddenly cramped, with five gorgeous (yet huge) cowboys. She greets the gentlemen, narrows her eyes, and lets out a curse  that would make a sailor blush.

Katherine Deane: &^$%@ it, Corinne! I said I was burnt out and wished for five days of western sun, and a little kink thrown in.

(Her most trusted assistant, Corinne Alexander, replies over the intercom): Oops, sorry. You have seemed pretty stressed out these past few months. I thought you would enjoy an interview with five western sons who enjoy a little kink.

Katherine Deane: (curses again and turns her head to the five scowling, testosterone laden men in front of her.) All right gentlemen.  I’m sorry for the mix up.  I have only beta read for one of your authors, so the rest of you are quite new to me. How about a round of introductions?

Clint Ryan:  Hold on a second, young lady. Where I come from, ladies don’t use language like that.  In fact, women with salty tongues like that ofttimes find themselves with a mouthful of soap.

Katherine Deane: (rolls her eyes at the tall drink of water with black as midnight hair and startling blue eyes.  The cleft in his chin was sexy as hell and a bit distracting if she were being totally honest) Yeah, I gathered that. You are from what time, 1870’s? Nowadays, women have a distaste for soap.

Clint Ryan: Indeed? Well then, I have a good strong yardarm at my Boston shipyard. I could string you up for a good striping if you prefer. No? Then consider yourself lucky you are not my fiancee.  Of course, I prefer genteel women like my own Emmalee, so that wouldn’t likely happen. Although naughty as she is, she has felt the flat of my hand at times.  Many times more recently, if fact, during our trip to Denver.

(Clint frowns remembering all the mischief Em got into on the trail and the train).

Jackson Owens: If you had a taste for soap, that is you liked it, well, it wouldn’t quite do the trick now would it? If you were my woman I’d  bend you over that desk and warm your tail end, until you learned to curtail that tongue. You can ask Celia how well that works.

(Jackson winks at her and knows his point had been made when Katherine’s cheeks blush)

Katherine Deane:  I’m sorry, gentlemen. I’m a little out of sorts right now, please forgive my rudeness.

Sam Pride: (flashes his devastatingly handsome smile.) It’s all right, … we can have a reckoning later That’s what I call it with Mabelle, anyway. But first, would you like to finish this interview? How often do you get five characters  in one room at the same time?

Katherine Deane: You’re right. This is a marvelous opportunity!

(talking to herself now, ‘five handsome alpha males, together, not trying to kill each other. )

You’re not going to try to kill each other are you? I did almost have an issue the last time I put a few alphas together.

Matt : (chuckles) No, we are not going to try to kill each other. As a matter of fact, we all have something in common.

Abel Armstrong: Sure, we all have a cleft in our chins. (winks) I’m keepin’ mine under a beard just to keep the ladies from overwhelmin’ me. Not that I have eyes for them since meetin’ my Sunny. From the first moment, that li’l girl wrapped me around her  finger. Well, almost. She’s earned herself a few spankin’s along the way.

Katherine Deane: (leans back in her chair and smiles) That’s easy. Besides being handsome, old western types, you are also all spankos, right?

Clint: ( corrects her) I am not a ‘western type’ as you put it,  but I agree with the western philosophy of taking a sassy young miss across the knee when the situation warrants. If handled correctly, I’ve found some young ladies even enjoy it, despite their protests to the contrary. (A perfectly wicked grin curves his full lips and gives him a devilishly delicious appearance).

Abel Armstrong: Yep, I also  reckon a good, hard spankin’ can do wonders. But I  got the best results when I gave her some bare-bottomed swats in public. Whoo-ee, did that straighten Sunny right up. For a while, anyway.  She’s considerably younger than I am, so she tends to let her emotions run high.

Jackson: That’s a right good idea. Don’t know why I never thought of it.

Matt:  Me neither. I think we need to hang out with big brother for a spell. He’s got more experience. Maybe he can teach us a thing or two.

Katherine Deane: (leans back even further in her chair, furiously taking notes ) Public swats. mmm. Damn , you guys are hot.

Matt:  (scowls) That’s strike two concerning your salty language. Care to go for strike three? Each one of us is quite capable of administering a thorough spanking.

Abel Armstrong: Modern sensibilities are no excuse, young lady.

Katherine Deane: (swallows nervously as her cheeks turn a crimson red)  Sorry. bad habit.

Sam: (chuckles)  Matt is good with handling bad habits, aren’t you?

Matt: Why yes, I am. I find that a trip over my knee with a  firm hand applied to her bare bottom cures my little Annie of bad habits.( He winks at Sam) Corner time with a red bottom on display works too.

Katherine Deane: (leans back a bit further in her chair, her brightly painted pink toenails barely touching the desk in front of her)  Come on, please. Just tell me what the big similarity is.

(She takes a closer look at all of them) Wait a second.

Sam:  Are you seeing a bit of a family resemblance?

Katherine Deane:  (takes in the height, stature and dimpled chins. She can’t tell on Abel, because he wears a beard, but she suspects he also has a cleft there)

Abel Armstrong: We are all from the same father,  Johnny Hastings.  None of us knew about each other until his passin’. We met at the readin’ of his will. I reckon it was a fateful day for all of us. It purely was for me. I had no idea I was the eldest of five boys.

(Katherine Deane squints and shifts to the side trying to see a different angle )

(The chair  slips backward, and she falls flat on her back)

(Five pairs of hands help her to her feet.)

Matt: (asks in concern) Are you okay?

Katherine Deane: Sh*$, yeah, I’m ok. stupid %&^$ing chair!

(Her eyes go wide when she sees the  raised eyebrows  on the stern men around her)

Matt: (blows out a breath) Clint, where’s that bar of soap?

Clint: ( shakes his head sadly) Poor thing. She’s beyond soap. We’ll need lye and a scrub brush! Then we need to find her a spanking kind of man to tame her. Too bad we don’t have any more unmarried brothers.

Able Armstrong: Maybe we ought to use that chair for somethin’ more memorable than a soapy mouth. Three or four swats from each of us might scare that cursin’ right out of her.

Jackson: Why the chair when you have a perfectly functional desk? And after all those warnings you think the belt might leave a more lasting impression?

Matt: Well hell, we got five belts right here at our fingertips. No need to waste time lookin’ for soap. (He reaches for his belt buckle)

Katherine Deane: (Her eyes widen as she presses her hands to her backside)  Can I just say I’m sorry?

All five men: Yes. After your spanking.

Katherine Deane: Uh oh!

After interview:

Corinne jumps when she hears the door open, and nods at the five men who exit. They tip their hats with a “howdy, ma’am and a grin, and leave the office.

Corinne rushes into Katherine’s office to see her wincing as she sits down into her hard chair.

Katherine Deane: ( mumbles) I’m getting a cushioned chair for the next interview.

Corinne: Sorry about that, Kate.

Katherine Deane: No, that was a great call for an interview. And I’m sorry I yelled at you.  But  strangely, I feel a lot more relaxed. Which is good.

(She winces as she shifts in her seat). The next two weeks are going to be he– I mean, heck.   After that, I am seriously going to need a vacation. I’m going to need to stop time for a while and just chill and daydream and relax.

Katherine Deane:(sighs) Yep,  pencil that in for me , in two weeks, will you?

Corinne: (smiles knowingly) You got it, Kate.

She leaves the room, and marks her planner.

Katherine Deane – next interview – science fiction, alpha male, time travel, spankings

The End

lawmancom patty devlin

The Lawman’s Lessons by Patty Devlin

Choose one of the two men, or take the return ticket and head home. It wasn’t much of a choice. Celia had worked and studied so hard to have a school of her own. And she had known that they might be a little upset. She knew exactly what they had wanted. It was stated very clearly in the advertisement and she could probably read and write better than anyone one of them.

Jackson sure never planned to marry, and how could he when his name would be a disgrace to his bride? So why had he fought so hard to keep her from marrying the other man? He could have shrugged it off and gotten out of there, but he just couldn’t do it. The new school teacher needed someone who would stay on her tail and teach her a lesson or else she’d run right into danger.

But, he’d have to be honest with her and tell her about that no good scoundrel who had sired him. She at least had a right to know he was a bas—illegitimate, that the man who fathered him had left his mother alone to fend for herself. Then if Celia could handle that, well, they could work the rest out. Besides, there weren’t any other good choices and she simply couldn’t be without a husband.

outlaws bride

The Outlaw’s Bride by Renee Rose

Mabelle Lawson had been managing her dead sister’s ranch without help for three months. The last thing she needs is a band of outlaws showing up and pushing her around. The Curly James gang members have no patience for her sass, and when their leader attempts to strike her with his fist, one of his men volunteers to spank her instead. She wants to hate the good-looking outlaw, but he seems to have her well-being at heart, even risking his life to protect her from the other men.

Unjustly accused of murder, Sam Pride is on the run and his luck worsens when he tangles with the Curly James gang. The only bright spot is the little spitfire rancher who steals his heart with her courage and spunk. When the two set off together for Cheyenne and then Denver, sparks fly and their magnetic connection grows.

Still, Mabelle is not sure if Sam will commit and even if he does, can he clear his name before a bounty hunter shoots him or brings him in?

blacksmits bride

The Juniper Bride by Maddie Taylor

Emmalee Gray watches in frustration as her fiancé, Clinton Ryan, boards a train heading west. Told to stay behind and prepare for their wedding as Clint embarks on a mysterious errand, Em has other ideas. She doesn’t want to remain home without him, especially with her witch of a stepmother and a father who barely knows she exists. She’d much rather risk Clint’s wrath and follow him, planning to stay hidden until she gets so far away from Boston he wouldn’t dare send her back alone. Influences, by Patricia Green

I am very excited to have Patricia Green here today to talk about influences in writing, science fiction, and world building. This is a wonderful article! She also has shared her latest science fiction / spanking romance with us! It’s the second in the Romantek series, and I absolutely loved it!  Here’s Patricia. 🙂

My all-time favorite SF book is Ringworld by Larry Niven. And although the romance is thin, the plot, characters and settings are fulsome. I don’t know what inspired the author, what genius spark of intelligence lit up Niven’s brain. I do know he was a mathematician during his college years, and loves to delve into theoretic physics in his books. It’s that background that informs his writing, and, I believe it’s what allowed him to build the incredible universe he did with his Ringworld series.

When I approach writing SF spanking romance, I don’t have a background in math or physics. I took bonehead classes in physics, chemistry, biology, and math. Consequently, I have to do a lot of research when building my worlds. I try not to dip into territory in which I will surely make errors, but I rely on current technology and then imagine where that tech might take us in one hundred, even two hundred years. Although some of it might be magical-seeming, I think science grinds through at a relatively predictable pace in most cases, a pace we can take some chances on foretelling. The spanking part, now that was easy. I’ve had that as part of my marriage for a very long time.

I try to set my science fiction parts only 150 years in the future. That gives me some solid footing on which to work. For the Romantek series, I use my imagination, and some influence from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, “The Matrix” by the Wachowski brothers, Dreampark by Larry Niven and Steven Barnes, and other SF books I’ve read over the last 35 years. I try to fit elements of these works into my books without stealing from them, and try to enhance any romantic concepts to give my books a passionate heart.

As I was thinking about these things, trying to come up with something new and special, I examined a concept from “The Matrix”: gel immersion. Current physics led me to nanites, and then I thought, what if there was a nanite gel that affected the brain and body? What could it do? Doesn’t that remind you of “Fantastic Voyage” by Harry Kleiner? I was more interested in the what than the how, because I’m not a theoretical physicist, and I don’t play one on TV.

So my nanite gel immersion and the company Romantek was born. The nanites are so small, they can infiltrate the body through pores in the skin and inhalation of the gel. It causes a sleep so deep that dreamers experience a programmed set of circumstances as though they were real. Thus, we’re led into the dream romance, based upon virtual reality time travel.

For other books (particularly my Daughter of the Moon two-book serial), I built my world around a more dystopian Earth, where there is a nuclear war between Asia and the West. Cold War politics led me to this future. When you’re a person for whom bomb drills were the norm as a child, where “duck and cover” was simply part of the school curriculum, it makes an impression on you. Creating a dystopian future from that was natural, as was creating a fantastic bomb shelter underground where close quarters means conflict, romance and spankings.

And Laricon’s Ways was influenced by the domed habitats in both “Babylon 5″(particularly the Martian colony) by J. Michael Straczynski, and also Logan’s Run written by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, which was made into a movie by the same name. Both of these fictional universes utilized existing, uninhabitable planets for colonization. My colony, in Laricon’s Ways, lives on Jupiter’s moon, Io, and the romance is among three people (one man and two women). Spankings are the norm in this colony.

All authors are influenced by something, something so memorable that it makes an indelible imprint on our brains. Hopefully, it leads us to create equally compelling books that influence a new generation of readers. What influenced/s you?

Note: The Daughter of the Moon books and Laricon’s Ways are under revision and therefore out of print right now. As technology has changed, it was time to update those SF universes.

Promo- Journey’s Valentine, by Patricia Green

This is a fun, quick addition to the Journey series that I devoured in one sitting!

Not just because it was so short.  But rather because it was so fast paced!

It had an awesome plot that built upon the new relationship of Deuce and Pilar, and their struggles from being from two totally different “worlds”.  It also had some great action, and of course hot spankings and sex!

Ok, I have to be honest. I had a tough time choosing which excerpt to use for this post.

The one that I finally decided to use is a nice, sexy, rated R excerpt that gives an indicator of just how hot this story is!

But my other favorite excerpt is one that is more meaningful. It has stuck with me over the past 10 months since I read it.  It is also the scene that made me fall in love with Leo Journey as a father figure. (I have had several “No Daddy!” day dreams including the Journey patriarch 🙂

If we get enough replies, I might be able to coax Patricia into letting me share it as well! 🙂

Pilar was tired, so Deuce wasn’t going to press her to make love, though he wanted to claim his territory. Especially in the face of this new development. He truly didn’t like the idea of her traveling all over and being away from him for so much of the time. He’d miss her in a big way. Pilar had become such a focal point in his life. She was his mate in every way he’d ever imagined a woman could be.

Snuggling up next to him, she put a hand on his bare chest, sliding it down his abdomen after a moment. The tips of her fingers teased his cock through his pajama bottoms and she practically purred against his shoulder. He put his hand over hers. “I thought you were tired, sugar.”

“Not that tired.”

He pulled her hand down to his rapidly hardening dick and gave it a squeeze. Pilar didn’t need any further encouragement. She kneaded his flesh for a moment, then pushed her hand down into his pajama bottoms and grasped him firmly. She rose up on her side and began to kiss his chest, pausing to suck on one of his hard nipples for a moment.

“You like that, spank-man?”

“You know I do, sugar.”

“Then I’ll do it again.”

“I reckon that would suit me fine.”

“I love it when you talk Texan to me.”

“Well, ma’am, it is purely my pleasure,” he said, putting on his deepest drawl.

Her lips traveled down his torso and Deuce drank up the attention like fine wine.

Deuce Journey and his wife Pilar are faced with some tough decisions. Pilar has been offered a new, demanding job with lots of travel, and yet she wants to start a family with Deuce. She’s torn and irritable for weeks over the difficult decision.

Deuce is patient with the wife he loves with all his heart, but even his patience is worn thin when she has an out-and-out tantrum during a family crisis.

It looks like Valentine’s Day is going to be a miserable experience. Can a little Valentine’s candy heart be the answer to their prayers?

Promo – Princess and the Huntsman, by Patricia Green

I invited Patricia Green to stop by today and talk about her brand new story, The Princess and the Huntsman.  It seems like a combination of old school romance, mixed with a fairy tale theme, spiced up with some very emotionally charged spanking and sex scenes. Mmmm! I just finished the story. And I have to honestly say, it pressed all of my buttons!  Great plot, fun characters, hot spankings, sizzling sex, emotional growth, and of course, a HEA!  This is not your grandmother’s fairy tale!  I loved it, and finished it in two short days.

Here’s Patricia, to tell you more. 🙂

First, let me thank you, Katherine, for inviting me here today. It is always a pleasure to visit and share a little of my thinking with you for a few minutes. Now let’s talk about:

Fairy Tales for Adults

Once upon a time, there were stories. Some of the stories had mystical, magical qualities. We call them “fantasy.” Other stories had love and sensuality. We call them “romance.” A few stories had stern household discipline. We call those “spankers.” Quite a lot of stories have morals and medieval themes. We call them, “fairy tales.” But, most amazing of all, some had all of these features. We call those, “fantasy, spanking romance, fairy tales.”

That’s what I hope to discuss with you today.

What makes up a fairy tale? Are they heavy, dogmatic, morality plays? Are they light with Tinkerbelle’s fairy dust? What are they exactly? Originally, fairy tales were children’s stories, meant to teach lessons in good comportment and morality. Many of these lessons were period-specific. So, for example, Grimm’s fairy tales are about nineteenth-century ethics. But they don’t have to be obsolete tales. They can be modernized, with sensibilities those of us in the twenty-first century can relate to. The lessons can be a lot more subtle and playful.

Their romantic component doesn’t have to be elderly, either. In fact, some of the most romantic fairy tales have been updated for current readers, like my version of Snow White (Snowy and the Seven Wharves). And the eroticism has been kicked up a notch as well. It is often quite explicit and more sensual than ever before. You’ll find that in my current release (The Princess and the Huntsman).

Spanking stories are more modern views on personal relationships, though discipline has long been a part of fairy tales—consider Aesop’s Fables. But today’s spanking stories are more titillating, and the discipline is often limited to family units, whether that is an orthodox pairing, or a polyamorous grouping, or even an age-play tale.

And fantasy…oh yes, so much of what we read now is fantastical, set in distant places with unusual settings, people, mores, and universes. In modern fairy tales, we often see time-travel and paranormal happenings, or realms that are medieval, but not quite our medieval. They’re all fantastic and inspire the imagination.

I’ve written three modern fairy tales. Two are in fantastical places, and one was a contemporary theme. But all have been romantic stories that harken back on the fairy tales we know and love from childhood. If you haven’t read a fairy tale recently, get yourself a copy of one of the many modern fairy tales you can find at Amazon and other retailers. You might be pleasantly surprised at these updated versions of familiar stories. They’ll remind you of what you left behind in childhood, but give you permission to be rather naughty right now. Find your “happily ever after” in a book today.

Blurb for The Princess and the Huntsman, my newest book release. It’s a medieval fairy tale, set in a not-quite-familiar place and time.

Though she was once as sweet as she is beautiful, since her mother’s untimely passing Princess Brandywyn seems to grow brattier with every passing year… until the day she is waylaid by a band of ruffians and dragged away into the forest. She is taken far from her home, but at last she is rescued from the outlaws by a simple huntsman named Tom and her life is changed forever.

Neither Tom nor anyone else will believe that a girl dressed in rags could be a princess, and without the slightest idea of how to get home, Brandywyn finds herself with no choice but to accept Tom’s offer to share his cottage. The feisty nineteen-year-old princess soon learns, however, that Tom will not stand for being treated as a servant. To her horror, Brandywyn discovers that arrogance will earn her a good, hard spanking on her bare bottom, and that more serious misbehavior will result in even more humiliating punishment.

In spite of his strict discipline, Brandywyn begins to feel things for Tom that she has never felt before… things that make her blush with shame. A princess should not dream of being stripped bare and taken long and hard by a commoner, yet dream of it she does. But what will her answer be if he asks for her hand, and what will come of them if her father finds her and returns her to the palace? Can a princess not only lust for a huntsman, but love him as well?

“Kill it! Oh! It bit me! Kill it!” Brandywyn was beside herself. An insect had made a meal of her as she slept.

Tom sat up with a start. It was still dark in the cottage, but Brandywyn could see him clearly. He wore his same clothes, though loosened and without his boots.

“Brandywyn? What?”

“A ravening creature bit me!”

“Ravening?” He stood. “I see nothing.”

“Light the lamp, fool! I shall show you.”

Sighing, Tom lit the oil lamp. “Do you show me.”

Brandywyn held out her pale arm. On it was a small, red bump. “See?”

“Tis a mosquito bite, Brandywyn. Nothing more. I assure you that you will not perish for lack of blood.”

“You mock me! And use my name familiarly! I did not give you permission to do so.” She was furious. “Kill it! Find it and kill it!”

“‘Twould be impossible, Princess. It is too small.”

“There is no need to call me names. It will not change the matter.” He was frowning.

She rose from the bed and confronted him with hands on her hips. “You defy me? How dare you defy me, you lowly peasant!”

He faced her squarely and did not bend to a knee as a supplicant should. Brandywyn bristled. “You go too far,” he warned her. “I have done naught to raise your ire so. Back down or I shall show you the measure of my hand on your bottom.”

The spanking from Smith gave her pause. Was there no end to the mistreatment she would suffer? “I shall tell my father and he will have you gutted and stuffed with oats, like a holiday piglet.”

He continued to frown at her, towering over her like a near-to-toppling tree. “Do not push me.”

In fact, she did push him, with her two hands, though it did not move him even an inch. When that didn’t work, she slapped him full on the face. He turned his cheek slightly, but did not flinch. Brandywyn’s eyes rounded and her breath stilled as she saw the fury on his face. She instantly regretted her temper tantrum, but could not back down.

Tom grabbed her by the waist and bent her over his hip, hiking the shirt up to the small of her back; her bottom was bare, for she had no underclothes. “I am your guardian for the nonce,” he told her. “You will be polite!” With that, he set a resounding slap on her bottom.

“Ouch! Unhand me! Do you dare to strike a princess? You shall hang from a gibbet!”

“Hang me, then, but I shall have my pound of flesh first.” He commenced spanking her in earnest. Each blow jarring her through and through. Her bottom had just been beginning to feel better, too, but now, oh, now it was ailing once again. Tom continued to spank her, despite her protests, despite her squirming.

“Show some manners, Brandywyn!”

“Varlet!” Her protests were growing weaker and weaker as tears threatened to fall. And still, he spanked her again and again. “Please,” she finally pleaded. “Please stop. I shall be more kind.”

“I do not believe you,” he said, laying another half-dozen spanks on her fiery buttocks. The pain had rippled down her thigh to her knees along with his hard hand. “And I shall have my bed back this night!”

The coolest site for spanking romance readers!

I just found the coolest site for spanking romance readers!

It’s called Bethany’s Woodshed, and is run by a very talented lady named Bethany Burke.  I had never considered joining the website because it appeared to cost too much money.  Then I did the math.

I usually spend between $15 and $20 a month on spanking romance e-books – or was that my weekly expense?

The subscription to Bethany’s Woodshed was approximately 50$ for a 4 month subscription, equaling out to 12$ a month- if I did the math right.

And the best part is that I can download my books from them for free, with my subscription!

I downloaded some books that had already been released, including a few that have not been released yet.

Her Knight in Faded Denim, by Carolyn Faulkner

The General’s Daughter, book 2, by Breanna Hayse

Journey’s Valentine, by Patricia Green

Journey’s End, By Patricia Green

How cool is that!?! For the first time, I am ahead of the game, and am reading awesome stories from the authors I love. And I am doing it before the other readers! Woohoo!

And I have to say, the pictures on the site are AWESOME!  Each web page has a different spanking picture (I think I recognized Erica Scott in one), very tastefully done, not pornographic, just artistically portraying the beauty found in the act of a loving, but firm bottom warming.

I love this site, and can’t wait to get online and figure out how to use some of the functions, like the blog and sister sites, like Blushing Books. I really like buying from Blushing Books also. They have a great review policy, where you can earn money to buy more books.  When I get a little strapped for cash (hehe, pun intended 🙂 ), I do reviews to help me buy more books.

But for now, I am enjoying my reading.  So many good books to read, and not enough time in the day.

The very first book I downloaded was a book from one of my favorite authors, Patricia Green.

I have loved reading her Journey series, and had just finished reading the 4th book, Deuce’s Dancer, (the story about Deuce and Pilar).

This new story is a novella, which has not been published yet, called Journey’s Valentine.  I love Deuce and Pilar, they are so perfect for each other. What I really liked about this quick little story was how easily Patricia was able to capture everything in approximately 22,000 words, and not make it feel rushed.

The story follows the continuing Journey of Deuce and Pilar, their ups and downs, their mistakes, their reconciliations, and of course, some extra special attention in the bottom warming arena.  I have to be honest, I enjoy reading about spankings given by a loving, but authoritative hand.  When I read a story by Patricia, sometimes I can actually feel the heat in my own backside.  It’s wonderful!

In the beginning of the story, Pilar received a punishment spanking from Deuce (the belt! Mmmmm), and was made to stand in the corner. It was such a great way to start the story. And it didn’t falter from there.  Their love making sessions were intense and beautiful.  The plot also showcased their struggles as newlyweds, and a huge event that threatened to tear them apart.

This was so exciting! What a fun, quick read!

I love the whole Journey family! The men are strong, authoritative, good men, who know how to handle poor behavior. I keep having to remind myself they aren’t real. Poor Hubby 😦

(by the way, I will be interviewing Patricia soon, so we can talk about the issues of fantasy vs. reality in DD Fiction.)

And the women are just as lovable. They are strong, competent, good women with some lapses in judgment every once in a while, giving them the opportunity for some awesome OTK action. Mmmm.

I won’t give the story away, but as is normal for Patricia Green books, it definitely has a HEA. Thank goodness. I love HEA’s!

I loved this novella, and can’t wait to see it come out for everyone else to read. (Hopefully, Blushing Books won’t make us wait until next Valentine’s Day, though that is the title. Fingers crossed 🙂 )

But, if you want to read it now, you can go check out Bethany’s Woodshed.

Then you can read lots and lots of new books, without having to wait.

Shh, it’s our little secret.

Seriously, I mean that. Don’t tell my husband. I’m supposed to be on another spending freeze- necessary expenditures only.  I wonder when he will figure out that my e-books are actually a necessity for me. Hmmm?

Happy reading, ya’all!
